A Google spokesman has confirmed that they will now be updating the much talked about Penguin update continuously, they now plan to optimize Penguin live as they go.
Google said:
“That last big update is still rolling out — though really there won’t be a particularly distinct end-point to the activity, since Penguin is shifting to more continuous updates. The idea is to keep optimizing as we go now.”
This explains why UK website owners are seeing ranking changes on the back of Penguin over recent weeks.
Penguin targets websites that have poor quality backlinks, spammy content, and deliver a poor user experience.
Historically, the Penguin update has been processed offline and then rolled out, a continuous update will likely mean that more sites will be impacted, both positively and negatively, and could result in more instant fluctuations in search results.
With Google becoming more and more intelligent, it is vital that website owners who want to be on page one don’t try and cheat the system.
The most successful way of getting onto page one is through organic search engine optimization, when this is done ethically and in line with Google’s guidelines, it can produce superb results.
